Without doubt, opera and ballet fascinate theatre goers in a unique way. A guided tour of the Munich Opera presents information on the immense logistic complexity of each performance as well as interesting information on the staff on stage and behind the scenes, the architecture of the building and the characters who have shaped this institution. More than 350 years of opera and ballet in Munich provide for the historical background.

A tour of the National Theatre includes a visit to the Royal Hall and the adjacent Ionic Halls as well as the auditorium, the prompter’s box and the impressive area below the stage.

Tours of the National Theatre are conducted several times a week at 2:00 P.M. and last one good hour. Tickets cost € 7.00 (reduced price = € 5.00) and are available at the Opera Shop in the Box Office lobby.

In addition to our public tours at 2 p.m. the Bavarian State Opera offers guided tours for groups or exclusive tours for individuals on separate dates.

The rate is € 100,- for individuals and groups. Maximum group size is 25 persons.

After having attended a performance at our house we offer late-night tours of the National Theatre. These exclusive tours take approx. 45 minutes and offer a look behind the scenes.

Discover the unknown world of an opera house and learn more about the people who keep this busy house running. We are offering a very special package which also includes a guided tour of the Bavarian State Opera with access to non public areas and detailed background information. Your group will meet one of the State Opera’s staff members, who work as Stage Manager for example. They will give a description of what they are doing and speak about working on stage and behind the scenes of this world famous Opera House. The participants will be able to ask questions.
