Bavarian State Ballet II / Junior Company

The Bavarian State Ballet II was founded in 2010 and consists of an ensemble of 16 classically trained dancers between the age of 17 and 22, selected from a pool of international applicants. The Junior Ensemble is closely associated with the Bavarian State Ballet. The idea for founding the Junior Ensemble originated from the need to promote young talents in order to further their artistic development by collaborating with world-renowned artists. The Junior Ensemble aims to strengthen the overall visibility and significance of dance in our community.

The Bavarian State Ballet II bridges the gap between graduating an international ballet academy and working in a professional dance company, an extremely important time of transition for young dancers.
The Junior Company´s independent repertory reflects the current aesthetic developments of the arts scene. Acclaimed choreographers from both the classical and modern idiom include Marius Petipa, George Balanchine, Hans van Manen, Jiři Kylián and Nacho Duato. The young generation of choreographers will be represented by Terence Kohler, Slava Samodurov, Simone Sandroni and Richard Siegal, who will create new works on the company.

The Junior Company is a cooperation of the Bavarian State Ballet, artistic director Ivan Liška, the Heinz-Bosl-Foundation under the leadership of Prof. Konstanze Vernon and the University of the Performing Arts Munich, Prof. Jan Broeckx.
