Youngsters in the Wilderness
For the anniversary of the City of Kelheim, the Junior Company of the Bavarian State Ballet presents selected works from the repertoire in front of the Befreiungshalle.
Sa 20.07.13, 4:00 pm and 8:30 pm
Su 21.07.13, 4:00 pm and 8:30 pm
Under the name "Ballet and Wilderness", the Bavarian State Ballet, together with the Bavarian Department of the Environment, inaugurated a one-of-a-kind project in 2004. Its aim: bringing together culture and nature in a unique and artistic way. Even though they may seem contradictory at first, the two share an innate connection.
The ballet – an art form requiring great discipline and body control – is nurtured by the wild, sometimes animalistic emotions of human existence. On the other hand, perhaps somewhat hidden below the surface of our perception, nature observes rigid laws and structures at all times.
In 2007, the World Wilderness Foundation in Anchorage honored the Bavarian State Ballet and its commitment to preserving nature by making the company its "International Ambassador of Wilderness".
The Junior Company – the "wild youngsters" of the Bavarian State Ballet – continues to explore the common ground between ballet and wilderness in front of the Befreiungshalle Kelheim on July 20 and 21, 2013. They will perform works inspired by nature, such as Na Floresta (In the forest) by Nacho Duato and Gli Uccelli (The birds), a creation made on the Bavarian State Ballet II by Russian choreographer Slava Samodurov.
