Richard Strauss Concert “For All” Commemorating Munich’s Anniversary and an Additional Gala Festival Concert with Karita Mattila and Thomas Hampson

The Bavarian State Opera invites you to celebrate Munich’s birthday. This coming summer, in addition to the new production of Mozart’s Idomeneo, Munich’s 850th anniversary will also be commemorated with an open-air concert. To pay reverence to Munich’s major contribution to music history, the Strauss program with the “Vier letzte Lieder”, originally planned for July 28 at the Nationaltheater, and “Don Juan” as well as Charles Ives' Symphony Nr 1 has been moved forward to July 12 and will take place as an open-air concert on Marstallplatz in conjunction with “Opera for All”. Thanks to the generosity of BMW’s Munich subsidiary, admission will be free. Kent Nagano will conduct the Bavarian State Orchestra, and the soloist is Anja Harteros.

On July 28, an additional Gala Festival Concert will be added to the schedule. Karita Mattila and Thomas Hampson will sing arias, duets and scenes from La forza del destino, Macbeth, Simon Boccanegra and Un ballo in maschera by Giuseppe Verdi, from Evgeny Onegin by Pyotr Ilyitch Tchaikovsky as well as works by Johann Strauss, Emmerich Kalmán, Franz Lehár and Cole Porter in the Nationaltheater under the direction of Kent Nagano.

Tickets ranging from € 10.00 to € 132.00 can now by ordered by mail, fax and e-mail. Box office, telephone and on-line sales begin on March 31, 2008.
