Live streaming at the Bavarian State Opera
The Bavarian State Opera is starting a pilot project at the beginning of 2012: For the first time, audiences from all over the world will be able to experience a complete evening of opera from the stage of the National Theatre online via video streaming. The broadcast is free to users.

200th Anniversary of the Musical Academy of the Bavarian State Orchestra
At the beginning of December, the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Bavarian State Orchestra’s Musical Academy will reach its thrilling climax. The high point of the Festival Concert on December 9 and 11 in the Nationaltheater commemorating the Musical Academy’s round birthday will be performances of works that were heard at the inaugural concert on December 9, 1811.

Start of the 2011/12 Season at the Bavarian State Opera
The new production of “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” on 31 October under the musical direction of Constantinos Carydis marks the first high point of the 2011/12 season at the Bavarian State Opera. This is followed in December by the production debut of the Spanish theatre group La Fura dels Baus, which will be staging Puccini's “Turandot” on 3 December. The Musical Academy of the Bavarian State Orchestra will be celebrating its 200th anniversary at the end of the year with a number of celebratory concerts. Once again, the curtain-raiser to the season will be the OktoberMusikFest, which will be offering a varied concert programme following the Japanese tour.

All in all, the Munich Opera Festival welcomed audiences numbering over 96.000 people to its events. A widely varied program made up of over 80 operatic performances, ballet evenings, concerts and other performances were presented this year.

Concert for Japan
The Bavarian State Opera will be presenting a Solidarity Concert for the Japanese people at Munich’s Cathedral of Our Lady on April 3. The Bavarian State Orchestra under the direction of Kent Nagano will play Brahms’s “A German Requiem”. The vocal soloists will be Soile Isokoski and Christian Gerhaher.

Première “I Capuleti e i Montecchi”
For the first time since its first Munich performance in 1834, Vincenzo Bellini’s opera will be back on the stage of the Nationaltheater as of March 27. Rehearsal photos are already on display in the blog, and on March 20, the participating artists will be reporting on their rehearsal work at an introductory matinee.

Kirill Petrenko Will be the new General Music Director of the Bavarian State Opera
Kirill Petrenko will be the new General Music Director of the Bavarian State Opera. He will assume the position on September 1, 2013 for an initial period of five years as successor to Kent Nagano, who will not be extending his contract beyond 2013. Opera Director Nikolaus Bachler: “The acquisition of Krill Petronko’s services for the bost of General Music Director at the Bavarian State Opera sets a sign toward the future.”

The New Productions in the 2010/2011 Season
The Bavarian State Opera will be presenting six premières during the 2010/2011 season in addition to a repertoire featuring a selection of some 30 works drawn from the full scope of music history.

Débuts and Role Débuts in the 2010/2011 Season
A sizable number of débuts and role débuts along with the usual mixture of internationally renowned stars and promising up-and-coming young singers will set the tone once again next season for the cast lists of the individual operatic productions, which include almost 40 débuts and more than double that number of role débuts at next year’s performances.

The Concert Program of the Bavarian State Orchestra for the 2010/2011 Season
Even before the new season at the Nationaltheater opens, the Bavarian State Orchestra under the direction of General Music Director Kent Nagano will be making guest appearances on tour in September of 2010 in the concert halls of 13 European and Russian cities.

Program “Pavillon 21 MINI Opera Space”
With the publication of the 2010 Munich Opera Festival preview, the Bavarian State Opera presents the main program for the Pavillon 21 MINI Opera Space. The new temporary performance venue will be opened on June 24 with Christoph Schlingensief’s first project from the Opera Village in Burkina Faso.

Pavillon 21
MINI Opera Space
At the 2010 Munich Opera Festival, the Bavarian State Opera will inaugurate a new temporary performance venue on Marstallplatz. The architects at COOP HIMMELB(L)AU have designed a mobile and flexible playing area for this venture.
