The continuous occupation with the work of William Forsythe, which Ivan Liska has pursued since the beginning of his directorship in Munich (1998 Artifact II, 1999 the second detail, continually in the programme) , will be extended with the premiere of the full length piece Limb’s Theorem.
The Forsythe team of balletmasters Ana C. Roman, Chris Roman, Noah D. Gelber and Jill Johnson have already worked with the company in Munich since July. The dancers are to become accustomed with the choreographical world of William Forsythe, including improvisation technique which Limb’s Theorem entails. These are essential new aspects in comparison to the works already danced in Munich. In addition to this, the work of former Forsythe soloist Tony Rizzi has been presented with the piece Just Die, as part of the Ballett Labor programme and also as part of the Munich Festival DANCE 2004 at the end of October. Together, they form the relation of interaction which the company systematically expresses with the work of William Forsythe.
In addition, there will be two events in the “Ballet Extra” series, which take place in the rehearsal studios of the State Ballet (Platzl 7). On 22nd November there will be a lecture by Gerald Siegmund, who, as an author and publisher (e.g. William Forsythe, Denken in Bewegung, Henschel Verlag 2004)
has shown a deep understanding for the work of the choreographer.
On the 25th November, the Forsythe Balletmasters will give an insight into their rehearsals with the Munich company.

On the 7th February, the National Theatre will present a further evening in the choreographers “Portrait” series.
This one is dedicated to Hans van Manen, whose works are “at home” in the National Theatre since the premiere of Grosse Fuge in 1973. The new programme consists of three revivals (Five Tangos, Black Cake, Solo) and two premieres (Two, the Old Man and Me).
Ballet week 2005: 22nd March until 3rd April 2005.
The opening programme will be different from the previously announced “Portrait Saburo Teshigawara”. The choreographer has requested that , for personal reasons, it should be postponed.
Instead, there will be a World Premiere of a ballet by Itzik Galili, Munich Premiere of Balanchine’s Agon and a revival of Bella Figura by Jiří Kylián.
In the course of the week, which will be interrupted at the beginning by three opera performances, the company will present John Cranko’s Romeo and Julia - twice, The Sleeping Beauty (Ivan Liska’s version) – twice, and Limb’s Theorem and Portrait Hans van Manen.
Also part of the Festival week is a Matinee of the Ballet Academy Munich/ Foundation Heinz Bosl.
This year’s guest company is the Limón Dance Company of New York.
Lucia Lacarra has announced her guesting dates for the season.
