Autumn at the Bavarian State Opera

Spielzeit 2012/13: Vox populi
23 September sees the start of the new opera season. The programme during the first weeks of the 2012/13 season will include "Tannhäuser", "Fidelio", "Tosca" and the first performance of Jörg Widmann's new opera "Babylon".

The new opera season starts on 23 September with a performance of Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser under the baton of Kent Nagano. This is followed by Beethoven's Fidelio in the production by Calixto Bieito and Puccini's Tosca with Tatiana Serjan and Jonas Kaufmann in the main roles.

The high point of the opera autumn is the first performance of Babylon, Jörg Widmann's new opera to a libretto by the philosopher Peter Sloterdijk.

In addition, the October Music Festival will be taking place again from 12 to 20 October 2012. In cooperation with the Max Planck Institute, a series of concerts preceded by lectures has been once again developed on the theme of "Chaos and Order". But before this, Kent Nagano appears as musical director at the 1st Academy Concert with works by Karl Amadeus Hartmann, Ludwig van Beethoven and Dimitri Shostakovich.

The Bavarian State Ballet starts its new season on 21 September with its revival of La Bayadère. Also on the programme: the high point of this year's Ballet Festival – Goldberg-Variations / Gods and Dogs.
