In the 2014/15 season, the Bayerische Staatsorchester will again offer a wide-ranging programme within the framework of its six Academy Concerts. The spectrum ranges from the continuation of a cycle of Mahler’s symphonies under Kirill Petrenko and concert hall rarities like Alexander Zemlinsky’s Lyric Symphony to an extraordinary Sitar Concert by the Indian composer Ravi Shankar.

Kirill Petrenko will be conducting the Bayerische Staatsorchester three times during the 2014/15 concert season. The First Academy Concert will bring together the works of Gustav Mahler and, in the following two concerts, the General Music Director will focus on compositions by Brahms, Zemlinsky, Ravel, Berlioz and Karl Amadeus Hartmann.

At the Second Academy Concert, the Italian conductor Gianandrea Noseda will lead the Bayerische Staatsorchester for the first time. At the Fourth Academy Concert, the renowned percussionist Peter Sadlo takes to the stage as a soloist under the musical direction of Omer Meir Wellber.

At the final concert of the series, the former General Music Director of the Bayerische Staatsorchester Zubin Mehta returns as the special guest conductor of “his” orchestra. The programme includes works by Antonín Dvořák and Ravi Shankar, whose daughter Anoushka Shankar will be performing her interpretation of his concert for Sitar and Orchestra.
