An Audience with Adrienne: A Night at the Opera

An Audience With Adrienne. © Christian Kaufmann

An intimate evening of conversation, autobiographical stories, light refreshment and musical appreciation in the company of your adorable hostess, Adrienne.

Are you intimidated by the rarefied world of Opera? Are you anxious about not following the plot or of rustling your cough drop wrapper at an inappropriate moment? Let Adrienne, new to both Opera and all things Bavarian, share with you her unique perspective as she navigates her way through the Opera repertoire, learning to distinguish her Lohengrins from her Lederhosen, her Werthers from her Wolpertingers and her Pretzels from her Palestrinas.

Hot on the heels of her success with her ‘Seaside Special’ at the Edinburgh Festival in 2007, the Bavarian State Opera have invited Adrienne to be an ‘ambassador’ for Opera and to take up residence in the Munich Opera House for the duration of the Under Construction Festival, employing her as a temporary dresser to the statisten!

Adrienne, famous in Britain for a life dedicated to domesticity and to the ‘servicing of others’ (in laundrettes, hairdressers and hotel bedrooms, for example), warmly welcomes you into her cosy dressing-room-come-living-room as she introduces you to the Opera playing on the main stage that night, acquaints you with its characters and themes, interviews individuals working on stage and back stage and helps you appreciate the music. She will undertake all of this and at the same time relate to you the sagas taken from the highs and lows of her own operatic life!
