In Art Dreams Come True

Katarzyna Kozyra has created a 13-part performance and video cycle entitled In Art Dreams Come True. With the aid of Berlin drag queen Gloria Viagra and a vocal coach, she undertook an experiment to learn operatic singing and make-up. She examined the operatic world of grand emotions, which fascinated her, yet seemed supersaturated with conventions and poses. She studied the relationship between master and pupil, diva and audience, asked what it means to be a star, and which images of femininity allow a woman to present and realize herself. The result was a series of elaborately staged videos as well as documentaries of the live performances.
