Miroslav Srnka
Libretto by Tom Holloway based on “The secret life of words” by Isabel Coixet
Hanna and Joseph have no words to describe the occurrences which have instantly changed their lives. The two have found an endurable way of coping with their past: they remain silent. When meeting on an inoperative oil platform - the withdrawn woman and the badly injured but laddish man - they recognise a strange connection between themselves and thereby detect the possibility to live with their traumas.
Miroslav Srnka writes a chamber opera featuring the search for interpersonal communication. For both protagonists, singing will become the only way of communication, which also points out the only possible advancement.
With
Make No Noise the Prague-born composer will present his first feature-length opera. During the last years he was commissioned to work on compositions for a variety of ensembles such as Ensemble intercontemporain, Ensemble Modern, Arditti Quartett and Quatuor Diotima. In 2009, he was given the annual sponsorship award by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
Commissioned by the Bavarian State Opera, supported by AldeburghMusic with a Jerwood Opera Writing Fellowship
