The renaissance of baroque opera continues. For over ten years, the baroque masterworks of Anglo-German composer Georg Friedrich Händel have been performed, staged – and loved! – in Munich. After several rediscoveries from the early days of the art form of opera, Händel’s Tamerlano is now a further highlight in the Nationaltheater. The work deals with the abuse of power by Tartar Prince Tamerlano as well as the violent reactions and fatal entanglements this despot visits on his oppressed subjects. Tamerlano: an opera that points the way both musically and dramatically far into the future!
