Donizetti’s most famous tragic opera: Lucia, sister of Enrico, is in love with Edgardo, her own brother’s mortal enemy.  Her brother uses a foul deception to destroy her lover’s reputation in his sister’s eyes.  Unfortunately he succeeds.  His intrigues drive Lucia into madness and death, whereupon Edgardo’s role ends lethally.  A festival for bel canto fans.
