Der Sturm (The Tempest) - Further information
Jörg Mannes
Music by Anton Bruckner, Jean Sibelius and Pjotr I. Tchaikovsky
‘The Tempest’ inspired Jörg Mannes, Ballet Director of the State Theatre in Hanover, to create a ballet adaptation for the Bavarian State Ballet. Born and educated in Vienna, Jörg Mannes became a member of the Vienna Opera Ballet in 1985. There he danced numerous, mainly contemporary, choreographies by Ashton, Balanchine, Cranko, Kylián, Van Manen and Forsythe. He was seeking new experiences during exchange programmes in Monte Carlo, London and New York. A Nurejev-Scholarship gave him the opportunity in 1988 to work at the opera in Paris for a period of six months. In 1991 he became a soloist at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein where he also had his debut as a choreographer. As guest choreographer he was invited to work in Montreal, Indianapolis and with the Bolshoi Ballet. He has received awards at international choreography competitions.
Jörg Mannes chose music from works by Anton Bruckner, Peter I. Tchaikovsky and Jean Sibelius. ‘The Tempest’ will be conducted by David Robert Coleman, stage design and costumes are by Tina Kitzing and Lenka Radecky-Kupfer, who again are part of Jörg Mannes’ production team.
