“There is nothing in Africa that is not spiritual. This is the good spirit that I feel in Africa, and that is available to us at the most as “nature identical flavoring” or as “bio”. I really do see a tree differently from the way I saw it before – I don’t have to run over and hug it for that reason. Great theatrical experiences are always the ones in which the evening itself starts to breathe – that’s spirituality. You can’t organize it or buy it, it happens with the aid of antennas that humans have. In some cases, however, they’re bent out of shape or totally torn off. The spiritual is a power that is always there: an energy that propels the soul. This dimension is simply more powerfully present in many places in Africa than it is here in our part of the world – that’s what attracts and fascinates me so much.”
