Ballet by Marius Petipa
Music by Peter I. Tschaikowsky

"Sleeping Beauty, to the music of Peter I. Tchaikovsky, is without doubt one of the great masterpieces of the classic St. Petersburg era and forms a pillar of the repertory of any classical company. For more than twenty years, the Bavarian State Ballet performed the version by Sir Peter Wright in its programme. The new version presents the choreography by Marius Petipa in its purest form. I danced in this ballet for the first time 28 years ago together with my wife, Colleen Scott. Working on the basis of my experience, that of our ballet masters and other renowned experts with the work, we developed a concept with youthful, lively characters: the parents, the court, servants and ladies-in-waiting all of whom who give the piece a fresh, modern flair.

The work retains its fairy-tale character and the set design draws on the beautiful version by Peter Farmer unsurpassed to this day for its dramatic use of colour."
